Celebrating a BBBS Match

“BE SOMEONE WHO MATTERS

TO SOMEONE WHO MATTERS”

The Guidance Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program would like to recognize an Elk County match, Big Brother Jim Fedorko and Little Brother Jordan Larner, who recently celebrated their three-year anniversary. Jim and Jordan have enjoyed going to hunting camp, fishing, tubing at the East Branch Dam, and spending holidays together. As a result of Jim’s mentoring, Jordan’s self confidence and sense of the future have improved. Jordan would like to join the Marines after his high school graduation.

The Guidance Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program would like to recognize Big John Thomas and Little Blake Shaffer, Elk County’s longest running match, for having spent seven years together. Over the years, John and Blake have enjoyed going to the Ridgway YMCA, target shooting, touring the Elk Visitor Center, bowling, sled riding, and going to the Pittsburgh Steelers Training camp on a BBBS group outing. Blake’s grandmother, Stephanie, said of the match, ‘I believe it has helped us grow as a family’, and Blake feels that he and John will always be friends.

The Guidance Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program would like to recognize Big Bryan Slattery and Little Roman Aguillar, an Elk County match that recently celebrated their four-year anniversary. Some of their activities during this time included going to Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers games and local football games, Cook’s Forest, the YMCA, playing basketball at Kersey Park, and geocaching. Bryan and Roman have also helped the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program give back to the community by volunteering at the Elk County Human Society. Roman, his grandmother, and Bryan agree that since being matched, Roman has increased his hobbies and interests, and he has many more friends in the community.
